The 2005 Equality Awards

Following the success of the Tyne & Wear Equality Awards, Equality North East is pleased to announce the launch of the 2005 Equality Awards. This year the award scheme covers the whole of the North East region and will aim to recognise those small employers in the region who carry out best practice in the recruitment and retention of people from minority or disadvantaged groups.

The scheme is sponsored by larger employers/organisations including ONE NorthEast, Business Link, The Small Business Service, Regional Service for Clustering, The Federation of Small Businesses, The Northern Echo, The Employers Coalition, Sunderland LSP Community Cohesion Working Group and the TUC.

The winners will be announced at the Awards Dinner to be held at Newcastle Football Club on 17th June. Vera Baird QC, MP will make the presentations. The actual awards will be individually designed by local artists.

The categories are: -

• Employer of between 50 and 250 staff
• Employers of between 10 and 50 staff
• Employers of less than 10 staff
• Training Providers
• Voluntary Organisations
• Individuals who have made a difference
  (This may be an employer or employee)

The Awards will be given to the best in each of these categories and there will be an additional award for the ‘Overall Winner’.
