Higher education at the University of Sunderland
Sunderland is home to the University of Sunderland, with nearly 18,000 students from all over the UK and around the world. It is an innovative, forward-thinking university with high standards of teaching, research and support. It has strong links with industry and business, and works closely with some of the world's leading companies.
The university is based at two campuses, the City Campus in the city centre around Chester Road, and The Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s, off Dame Dorothy Street in Monkwearmouth.
The University is made up of four academic departments, known as faculties:
Faculty of Applied Sciences
Faculty of Applied Sciences courses include Biomedical Science, Biotechnology, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Science, Computing and Engineering, Drug and Alcohol Studies, Environment, Geography, Health and the Caring Professions, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Psychology and Sport and Exercise Sciences.
Faculty of Arts, Design and Media
Faculty of Arts, Design and Media courses include Design, Film Studies, Fine Art, Glass and Ceramics, Journalism and PR, Media, Performing Arts and Photography.
Faculty of Business and Law
Faculty of Business and Law courses include Business and Management, Law, and Tourism and Events Management.
Faculty of Education and Society
Faculty of Education and Society courses include Combined Subjects, Education, English, History, Languages, Politics, Religious Studies, Social Sciences, and The Centre for Lifelong Learning (short courses).
