Philip Lawrence logoReward - Recognise - Respect

Do you know a group that is inspiring people to make a difference?

Do you know of, or work with, a group of young people who have taken the initiative to improve their lives and the lives of others?

The Philip Lawrence award recognises local groups working to make things better in a community. Set up in memory of the inspirational head teacher of a secondary school in North London who was murdered in 1995 whilst going to the aid of a pupil, the awards are made to groups representing young people aged 11-20 who make a real contribution to the lives of others.

Awards are made under five themes

  • Combating lawlessness and violence
  • Promoting community safety
  • Advancing racial harmony
  • Demonstrating good citizenship
  • Supporting projects through schools

Judges will be looking for projects which encourage young people to work together, promote citizenship and help young people overcome the barriers that some of them face. Projects sustained in the community with activity largely or entirely initiated by young people themselves are most likely to be successful.
