Apprenticeships are Work Based Learning and are available to 16-24 year olds. Whilst on an Apprenticeship a young person can undertake qualifications to help them do their job. These include NVQ qualifications, Key Skills and possibly a Technical Certificate related to the work. NVQ's have been designed by employers to measure successful performance in a particular job.
There are different levels of apprenticeship:
- Apprenticeship (NVQ level 2)
- Advanced Apprenticeship (NVQ level 3)
A local Training provider will help deliver a structured training programme and support both the trainee and employer throughout.
Training may consist of day release or block release to a local College or Training Provider or a combination of these.
In general the cost of training is met by the Learning and Skills Council, although in some instances you may be asked to make a contribution. You will normally be responsible for paying the wage to the young employee.
