More about Work Based Learning Young people following a work based learning programme will usually be paid a training allowance from the Training Provider and follow training leading to NVQ qualifications. Employers are generally asked to make a contribution towards the training allowance or wage and training provision. This may vary depending on the type of work being done and Training Provider involved. Often employers are given the opportunity to take a young person on placement with their company and provide them with on-the-job training and experience while they are working towards their NVQ qualifications. Many employers are then able to employ the young person either after they have been on placement for a set period of time, or once they have achieved their NVQ qualifications.
