The Benefits Agency has joined with the Job Centre to become Jobcentre Plus and you can call them for help with Income Support [local numbers are listed here at the bottom of this page]. If you are a lone parent, disabled or caring for a disabled person or someone who is seriously ill and you are over 18 years of age, you can apply for Income Support and you would not be expected to sign on as available for work. Any 16/17 year olds who are in the same situation may also be eligible for income support. If you are aged 16 or 17 and are unable to work you might be able to claim Income Support.
