Year 9 is a good time to start thinking about your future and those important career decisions you will soon have to make.

To do this, look at your strengths and weaknesses, what you like doing and what you can do well. Also think about which jobs may interest you in the future.

An important first step will be to pick your courses and subjects for Years 10 and 11. These are likely to lead to GCSEs or other qualifications.

Q: What questions should I ask about each subject?

A: Ask your teachers and Connexions Personal Adviser:

    - For which jobs will this subject be useful?
    - Will there be exams? Will my course work count?
    - How much homework will there be?
    - Is a lot of reading and writing involved?
    - What skills will I develop?

Q: I don't know which career I want. How do I choose?

A: Choose subjects you think you will enjoy and do well at. Some subjects may be new to you. Find out more about these. A good balance of subjects will keep all sorts of options open.

Q: If I don't choose a particular subject, will it stop me getting
the job or career I want?

A: Speak to your Connexions Personal Adviser who will be able to give you lots of useful advice and informationm to help answer this.

Q: I have needed a lot of extra help at school, will I still get
this help in Years 10 and 11 and after I leave school?

A: You will still get help if you need it during years 10 and 11 and if you go on to college or Work based learning.

Don't leave it too late!
