                 Real work - real pay!

Think about it. Being paid to learn about the job you want to do, while you are actualy doing it.

That’s what apprenticeships are all about!

Apprenticeships are Work Based Learning and are available to all age groups.

They are available in a wide range of occupational areas. There might be different entry requirements for apprenticeships depending on the occupational sector.

Whilst on an Apprenticeship you can undertake qualifications to help you do your job. These include NVQ qualifications, Key Skills and possibly a Technical Certificate related to the work. NVQs have been designed by employers to measure successful performance in a particular job.

         Apprenticeship Pay

  • There is a Learning and Skills Council (government) requirement that "employed" apprentices should be paid a minimum of £80 per week for full time work. This will rise to £95 per week from 1st August 2009.
  • Sometimes there are agreed rates for certain stages of an apprenticeship. This means you may get pay increases when you have a birthday, achieve a qualification or reach a certain standard.
  • Minimum wage rules do not apply to all stages of an apprenticeship.
  • Pay may vary depending on your “status” as an apprentice.
  • Apprentices under 19 will not qualify for the national minimum wage.
  • Apprentices over 19 and in the first 12 months of their apprenticeship will not qualify for the national minimum wage.
