NewcastleGateshead Addiction Centre

A new centre has opened in Tyneside to help people who are recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.

The new centre, which is run by The Cyrenians, aims to show that recovery from addiction to drugs and alcohol is a real and achievable goal by supporting people into healthy lives, free from addiction and full of hope.

It will provide a safe place where people seeking to overcome their addictions can actively work on their recovery and build on what they have learned whilst in treatment.

Staffed by people who themselves are in recovery from addiction, the centre will offer a confidential service and can help to direct people who recognise that they have a problem into the most appropriate sort of treatment service.

It will provide networks of support and encouragement and enable people to take responsibility for their own recovery with help from the staff team.

The Recovery Centre is based on successful similar services which have been developed in America.

As well as a range of groups, meetings, volunteering opportunities and social activities, the service also provides Telephone Recovery Support, whereby trained volunteers provide telephone support to the most isolated members of the community who have addiction problems.

If you would like more information, the Recovery Centre can be contacted on Telephone 0191 232 7371.

You can also visit The Cyrenians website to see what other projects they are involved in.
