Careers in sport & leisure include the following:

• Sport & recreation. This includes such things as coaching, leadership at sports centres or after school clubs, officiating as a referee or umpire, professional sport, management of sports facilities, and sports development, working with the community to organise sports activities and promote events. Many of these jobs are voluntary (unpaid), particularly in coaching and officiating, but they would provide valuable experience for progressing to other roles in sport and recreation.

• Health & fitness. These jobs are mainly in health clubs and leisure centres, and are growing rapidly. As well as fitness instructors, there are jobs in running the premises, management of the business, and marketing and sales of club memberships.

• Playwork. Playworkers work with school age children in out of school settings, such as after school clubs, holiday playschemes, playbuses, and so on. These type of jobs are also on the increase.

• Outdoor activities. There are many different types of work in this area, such as outdoor pursuits instructors, educational activities with children and young people, expeditions, development training such as teambuilding weekends, and sports development.

• Caravan industry. Jobs in this area include running a caravan park; caravan sales and maintenance; caravan manufacturing. Many employers are small, family owned companies.
