Get into Carework RH Brand Logo

 

This exciting new programme is offered by Tyne Metropolitan College and part funded by the Princes Trust and is a pilot. Primarily for young people aged 16- 25 who are relatively near the labour market. The purpose of this is to prepare young people for work in a particular sector.

The programme is full time for 4 weeks and be tailored to meet both the needs of the learners and the employers in the sector. We pay lunch and travel and the programme will run 9am – 4.30pm (7 hours) per day.

Get into Carework will prepare learners for work in care work in the broadest sense. Mainly focusing around the skills and qualifications to gain employment in care work such as in hospitals, care homes and domiciliary care but will also potentially open up job opportunities in areas such as childcare. The programme will offer training in the key areas covered by the care induction standards, generic employability, personal and teamwork skills and literacy. The programme will run over 4 weeks as follows:

  • 6th February Introduction/enrolment day (10am–2pm including lunch)
  • 11th February Programme start
  • 25th February Work placement week
  • 7th March Final presentations

Programme content:

  • Introduction to care work
  • First Aid at Work (HSE accredited)
  • Safer moving and handling (NCFE accredited)
  • Introduction to medication
  • Dementia awareness
  • Role of multi-disciplinary teams
  • Common medical conditions
  • Employability skills (NCFE accredited)
  • Award in Food safety (RSPH)
  • Literacy National Test – level 1 or Level 2 depending on skills (OCR)
  • Job search
  • Personal skills and team work
  • Work placement
