General information
Nunnykirk School for Dyslexia near Netherwitton in Northumberland provides educational and social needs for pupils who experience specific learning difficulties - particularly dyslexia. The school was established in 1977 and teaches male and female pupils between the ages of 9-18. Students can either be day pupils or weekly boarders.
Post 16 provision
The school has a small Sixth Form with a flexible time-table. Entrance is via interview and pupils do not have to have 5 GCSE A-C grades. Particular strengths in art and photography. Links with local post-16 provision/colleges and supported work placements can be arranged.
There are opportunities to resit exams and/or improve grades while still carrying on with A Level education. Ideas from Sixth Form students for activities such as work experience and social and lesiure facilities are encouraged and students are supported in their planning.
There is specific Sixth Form boarding provision - study bedrooms provided and all Sixth Form students have access to separate study time and free time facilities including relaxation area with TV/DVD and kitchen. There is also access to a wide range of extra curricular activities in the evenings.
