Prince's Trust Team Programme Recruitment
Easington Lane/Shiney Row/Sunderland (High Street West)/Sunderland (Railway Row)/Washington
The Prince's Trust Team Programme is a 12 week personal development programme for young people aged 16 to 25 who are unemployed (particularly those who have been unemployed for six months or more) or in a minority group, not sure what career path to take, wanting a change in life or just wanting to meet new people.
The programme offers the chance to be part of a team of up to 15 young people carrying out a practical local community project of their own choice, thus offering the chance to make a difference to their community. The programme also includes an action-packed week at a residential activity centre, outdoor activities, a two-week work placement to gain experience of the world of work and a team challenge.
Young people on the programme can uncover hidden talents, improve their motivation, self-confidence and self-esteem, assume some responsibility and develop team-working and communication skills. Young people on the programme can also gain practical skills to help them when looking for work, gain a nationally-recognised City & Guilds qualification, achieve a wider Key Skills award and also gain a first-aid qualification. Careers advice and help with job-hunting, including creating or updating a CV, are also available.
All this can improve young people's chances of moving into employment, education or training. The programme is free - benefits such as Jobseeker's Allowance are not affected and New Deal clients are also eligible to apply. Travel expenses up to £16.50 per week can be paid, on receipt of bus tickets or passes. For some courses, lunch money of £2.00 per day may also be available. If entrants to the programme have already been receiving EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) this academic year, and have a Notice of Entitlement valid for 2010-11, then EMA should continue to be paid. EMA is no longer available to new applicants.
