Following the Education Act 2011, from September 2012 schools and academies are responsible for making sure that their pupils get impartial careers information, advice and guidance. The services on offer from Connexions teams will be different in each institution. For more information, speak to your Careers Co-ordinator in school.

Local authority Children and Young People’s services will continue to:

  • Provide careers information, advice and guidance to young people who are in vulnerable groups such as teenage parents, young offenders, looked after children and care leavers
  • Support statemented young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities as they move forward into further education, training or employment
  • Help those young people who have left school but are not yet in education, employment or training
