Find out about life in the Merchant Navy by coming along to the North East Shipping Careers Open Day, held at South Tyneside College, South Shields. Saturday 3rd February 2007 , 1000 to 1500 hours

South Tyneside College in the UK Centre of Vocational Excellence for Nautical Science and Marine Engineering, so you will be guarenteed first class training.

Shipping cadetship schemes offer:

A Foundation Degree or HND qualifications

Internationally recognised professional qualifications

The opportunity to progress to Bachelor degree level when you complete your training

Practical work experience on the ocean waves

A sponsorship package covering training costs with an allowance salary

Good staring salary when qualified; a typical wage for a junior officer is £17,000

You will need

A levels ora minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade 'C' or above, including Mathematics, Science and English
