Welcome to Connexions in Sunderland
Connexions Sunderland offers confidential advice and support services for all 13-19 year olds (and up to age 25 for young people with special needs).
Connexions Sunderland have launched the on-line Sunderland Directory of information and opportunities for students in Year 11.
The Sunderland Directory website is designed to help you consider your next steps after finishing Year 11, whether you're considering employment, an Apprenticeship, other work-based learning or further education.
There are sections on Exams and Study Skills, Apprenticeships, Further Education, Employment and Volunteering... along with information on 'Things to do' (including volunteering opportunities in Sunderland) and useful contact information for a huge number of organisations offering a wide range of support services for young people.
You can request information and application forms for specific learning opportunities - and if you let us know about your future plans before the end of May 2012, you will be entered into a Prize Draw!

Houghton and Washington Connexions Centres opening hours
If you live in Houghton or Washington you can access Connexions services five days a week:
Monday 10am-4pm
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 10am-5pm
Friday 10am-4pm
If you need to speak to an Adviser outside these hours, the Directgov Careers Helpline for Young People offers free, confidential information and advice about the world of careers and learning for 13 to 19 year olds in England. Advisers are available between 8am-10pm, Monday-Sunday. The Helpline is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Connexions Sunderland gain matrix accreditation
Connexions Sunderland have been successful in gaining the matrix Standard for Information Advice and Guidance Services.

Nature on your doorstep
There are hundreds of species of insect, birds, mammals, pond life and a multitude of habitats in the Nuttery (Nut Orchard) at Washington Old Hall. Over the next year they are developing this area to maximise the wildlife and share it our neighbours.
They are looking for volunteers to work with a small group of staff and volunteers to help create and maintain this site for thousands of (visitors a year people and wildlife); get closer to nature and learn about native wildlife; record data; get your hands dirty; share you experience and knowledge with others and help design and create interesting wildlife features.
Sunderland College Bursary Fund
Did you know that you could receive financial help from Sunderland College's new Bursary Fund?
It's been designed to work in the same way that the Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA) did, as it's paid straight into your bank account giving you access to money when you need it.
It's also been guaranteed for the next four years which means it will be there to support you throughout your studies at College.
Sunderland Music Workshops
Sunderland Music Workshops was established in February 1994 and offers young people of Sunderland an opportunity to develop though music.
The Workshops have won many awards, locally and nationally, for using music to communicate and to help bring young people together. The Workshops are a free service to all young people aged 13-25 who live in the city.

Restless Development is youth-led development agency which is offering young people in Sunderland the opportunity to volunteer overseas as part of a government initiative, the International Citizen Service.
Volunteering with Raleigh International
Raleigh is a youth and education charity. Since 1984 it has inspired over 30,000 people from all walks of life, nationalities and ages to get out there and rise to the challenges of life on expedition.
Prince's Trust Team Programme Recruitment
The Prince's Trust Team Programme is a 12 week personal development programme for young people aged 16 to 25 who are unemployed (particularly those who have been unemployed for six months or more) or in a minority group, not sure what career path to take, wanting a change in life or just wanting to meet new people.
