Welcome to Connexions in Sunderland

Connexions Sunderland offers confidential advice and support services for all 13-19 year olds (and up to age 25 for young people with special needs).

Houghton and Washington Connexions Centres opening hours

If you live in Houghton or Washington you can access Connexions services five days a week:

Monday 10am-4pm
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 10am-5pm
Friday 10am-4pm

If you need to speak to an Adviser outside these hours, the Directgov Careers Helpline for Young People offers free, confidential information and advice about the world of careers and learning for 13 to 19 year olds in England. Advisers are available between 8am-10pm, Monday-Sunday. The Helpline is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Connexions Sunderland gain matrix accreditation

matrixConnexions Sunderland have been successful in gaining the matrix Standard for Information Advice and Guidance Services.

The matrix Standard endorses the quality of the information, advice and guidance on learning and work you receive from Connexions Sunderland, so you can be sure you're getting the very best support to help you make informed choices about your future.

Str8Up Apprenticeship and Excelr8 Open Day

Str8Up is a project aimed at young people, to encourage them to go into Apprenticeships or Excelr8 when they leave school.

The project, funded by the Sunderland City Provider Network, is organising an Apprenticeship and Excelr8 Open Day at the Stadium of Light on Saturday 25th February 2012 between 1pm and 4pm.

Sports Maker Volunteers

The first Sports Makers convention has been confirmed and will take place on 16th February 2012 from 6pm to 9pm, at City Space, University of Sunderland. 

Sports Makers is a national Olympic and Paralympic legacy programme to support the delivery of new grassroots sport across the country.

Springboard Sunderland Drop-in Week

Springboard Sunderland are supporting the National Apprenticeship Week which will take place from 6th to 13th February 2012

Springboard would like to invite learners to attend a presentation and take a tour of the modern training centre at Rivergreen Industry Centre, Pallion in Sunderland.

Sunderland College Open Evenings

Sunderland College are holding a number of open evenings in January and February 2012.

The Open Evenings will give you the chance to look around the college sites, meet the staff, get advice and learn more about life as a student at the college.

Volunteering with the National Trust

Nature on your doorstep 

There are hundreds of species of insect, birds, mammals, pond life and a multitude of habitats in the Nuttery (Nut Orchard) at Washington Old Hall. Over the next year they are developing this area to maximise the wildlife and share it our neighbours.

They are looking for volunteers to work with a small group of staff and volunteers to help create and maintain this site for thousands of (visitors a year people and wildlife); get closer to nature and learn about native wildlife; record data; get your hands dirty; share you experience and knowledge with others and help design and create interesting wildlife features.

Sunderland College Bursary Fund

Did you know that you could receive financial help from Sunderland College's new Bursary Fund?  

It's been designed to work in the same way that the Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA) did, as it's paid straight into your bank account giving you access to money when you need it.

It's also been guaranteed for the next four years which means it will be there to support you throughout your studies at College.

Sunderland Music Workshops

Sunderland Music Workshops was established in February 1994 and offers young people of Sunderland an opportunity to develop though music.

The Workshops have won many awards, locally and nationally, for using music to communicate and to help bring young people together. The Workshops are a free service to all young people aged 13-25 who live in the city.

Restless Development is youth-led development agency which is offering young people in Sunderland the opportunity to volunteer overseas as part of a government initiative, the International Citizen Service.

The Prince's Trust Team Programme is a 12 week personal development programme for young people aged 16 to 25 who are unemployed (particularly those who have been unemployed for six months or more) or in a minority group, not sure what career path to take, wanting a change in life or just wanting to meet new people.
